This recipe works best if you have a good blender. A stick blender is suitable, but I use my Nutribullet because it gives it such a silky texture.
- 12 ounce can garbanzo beans (aka chickpeas) – drained, set liquid aside
- 1/2 cup tahini + 1-2 teaspoons of the oil
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2-4 garlic cloves, peeled (less or more per preference)
- salt & pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 2 teaspoons paprika
Add all ingredients to your mixing container. Blend well. Test for flavors and your preferred texture. Add reserved garbanzo bean liquid a little at a time for smoother hummus.
Make this recipe your own! Try it with no cumin and all paprika, or the other way around. Add fresh herbs like basil or chives. Garnish with fresh herbs.
Hummus makes a great snacking dip, but also can be used as a spread on a sandwich or crackers. When you serve it as dip, try drizzling different oils such as olive oil, chili oil, garlic oil or whatever else you have on hand along with a sprinkling of finely chopped fresh herbs.
